Overview of the Institution & Department

Founder Secretary – Kulapathy A.P.C. Veerabahu

A Gandhian by thought, Shri. A.P.C. Veerabahu had understood the fact that the independent of the nation alone will not raise the standard of the people. Having seen the condition of the socially and economically deprived section even after independence, Kulapathy realised that education alone would liberate them in the real sense. So in the year 1951, he founded V.O.Chidambaram College despite all financial hurdles. Starting from its inception till now, the college remains a temple of learning for all the deprived sections of people in the Southern Tamil Nadu. The successful establishment of V.O.Chidambaram College led to the founding of V.O.Chidambaram College of Education in 1955 and A.P.C.Mahalaxmi College for Women in the year 1973.

Hon. Secretary A.P.C.V. Chockalingam

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all to V.O.Chidambaram college for the new academic year 2020-21.  I cherish this time of the year with all. The new entrants bring in novel and innovative ideas to our campus and infuse a remarkable energy in each one of us. This helps us work with renewed passion and commitment towards realizing our vision-Education for all  .The college is committed to its vision . We aim at extending a helping hand in the upliftment of the lower strata of the society through education.

We believe in the vision of our founder Secretary Kulapathy A.P.C. Veerabahu that education alone can liberate and emancipate the youth in the real sense. In the process of emancipation the students have an enormous responsibility to identify the available opportunities, collaborate and realize the vision of our college along with faculty members and non-teaching who together make this institution. Let us remind ourselves that this year holds possibilities of new avenues and it is our chance to explore it and make it possible as a family.

Principal Dr. C. Veerabahu

Since 1951 V.O. Chidambaram College has established a reputation for providing a dynamic educational foundation for the socially and economically deprived sections of the society. In addition to our commitment to a value centered approach to learning, we are excited to offer a learning program to millions of young minds. We believe that our purpose of existing is to honour, value and impart knowledge to all. V.O.Chidambaram College strives to open new doors for each student by acknowledging and encouraging personal interest, talents and needs.

While preference is shown to the educational and cultural needs of the socially and financially marginalized community, admission is open to all irrespective of caste, creed and nationality. This institution was created with an objective of providing 360 degree quality education which will enable students not only to thrive in academics but also motivate them towards character building, leadership, extra and co-curricular activities.  A very strong, dedicated and capable team of educators has always been the driving force in the growth of the College. Our commitment at V.O.Chidambaram College is to provide a conducive and intellectually challenging environment that will empower students to become innovative thinkers, creative problem solvers and inspired learners prepared to thrive in the 21st Century with a humane touch.

I am honoured and very proud to serve and lead V.O.Chidambaram College. It is my obsession for education that has driven me to endeavour for a comprehensive and culturally receptive educational environment where every individual is given adequate support and enthusiasm to achieve his/her objective. However, we are never complacent and we constantly improve ourselves, in order to serve the community with the very best education. I am confident that with the support of our students, staff, parents, alumni/ae, well-wishers and benefactors, we will continue to flourish and prosper and serve the society at large.
